Keynote Speaker
Mr. Miller is the 2017-2018 recipient of the The Hewlett 50 Arts Commission Award which will support the creation of "Quantopia," a multimedia performance and an installation based on the history and evolution of the internet, which will premiere at San Francisco's Internet Archive in January 2019. Upcoming album releases include "Phantom Dancehall" with premier reggae label VP Records and his first blockchain album "The Invisible Hand" commissioned by SingularDTV. ​

Afternoon Panel Discussion
We will host an afternoon panel discussion and Q&A around themes of intertextual influence, the idea of 21st century fiction, the next big thing, imagination, immersion, identity and other topics that seem cool and relevant to the banner theme of interweaving the strands. Joining Paul D. Miller (dj spooky) on the panel will be the following people.

GARY BARWIN is a writer, musician and educator and the author of 23 books including the nationally bestselling novel Yiddish for Pirates which won the Stephen Leacock Award for Literary Humour, the Canadian Jewish Literary Award and was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Governor General's Literary Award. He has taught and been writer-in-residence in many universities, colleges and schools.
Taien Ng-Chan

TAIEN NG-CHAN is a writer, media artist and professor at York University. Her work takes on hybrid forms of experimental cinema, photography, poetry, and processes of mapping. In addition to her scholarly work in such publications as Wi: Journal of Mobile Media and Humanities, Taien has also published four books and anthologies of creative writing, produced multimedia arts websites, written for stage, screen, and CBC Radio, and shown her media works in film festivals and galleries across Canada and internationally. Taien is also a founding member of the Hamilton Perambulatory Unit (HPU), an artist-research collective that gives performative walking-mapping events.
